About Kayla

Meet Kayla Winkler, a member of our therapy team at Life Care Center of McMinnville.


Born and raised in McMinnville, Kayla earned her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Pacific University and a certification in lymphedema through the Norton school. She loves living and working in her hometown and seeing lots of familiar faces.


Kayla also enjoys running, biking, outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends and trying new restaurants.



About lymphedema

Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part caused by the abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the affected area.


Lymphedema may be triggered in susceptible individuals by a variety of events, including:

  • Radiation treatment for cancer
  • Infection
  • Surgery
  • Wounds
  • Trauma

Risk factors that increase the risk of developing lymphedema:

  • Older age
  • Excess weight
  • Rheumatoid arthritis


Areas often affected by lymphedema include:

  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Abdomen
  • Feet


Treatment procedures include:

  • Manual lymph drainage
  • Complete decongestive therapy
  • Compression stockings, as needed
  • Multi-layered bandaging
  • Remedial exercises
  • Patient education on skin and nail care
